What is SCMEA?

SCMEA runs several events every year in order to enrich Suffolk County music students' musical experience.

SCMEA also awards scholarships for students to attend music camps in the summer.
The SCMEA Howard Hovey Tuba Festival takes place each year. It is for tuba and Euphonium (baritone horn) players of all ages from all over Suffolk county.
All students that attend will be part of a clinic on tuba or euphonium playing presented by a renowned guest artist. They will also be part of rehearsing and performing as a mass ensemble. (over 150 tuba and euphonium players at one time!!!!!)

The SCMEA Day of Horn Festival takes place each year. It is for French Horn players of all ages from all over Suffolk county.
All students that attend will be part of a clinic Horn playing presented by a renowned guest artist. They will also be part of rehearsing and performing as a mass ensemble. (over 150 horn players at one time!!!!!)

SCMEA Jazz Day occurs annually. School jazz ensembles from all over Suffolk county perform for audiences and qualified adjudicators. The adjudicators give constructive criticism and suggestions.
A big part of the day is the performance of the SCMEA All-County Jazz Ensemble made up of the best student jazz players in Suffolk and directed by a renowned guest jazz musician. The guest artist also performs with his own group.
SCMEA Day of Percussion takes place each year. Percussion students and players from all over Suffolk county come together for a variety of workshops on the various percussion instruments and types of playing led by respected artists.

Percussion instrument vendors demonstrating and making available the latest in percussion equipment and technology
A performance by the All-County Percussion Ensemble made up of the best student percussionists in Suffolk county.
A raffle of tons of great percussion equipment and accessories.
All-county music festivals
Top performing students from every district in Suffolk County are put together into a band, an orchestra and a chorus at each of four age levels. They rehearse three times and perform all under the direction of a respected guest conductor. Students are selected for these ensembles based upon their NYSSMA scores and teacher recommendation.

Grades 11 & 12 - High School All-County
